Austin’s Forklift Danceworks Forklift Fantastia: Shape of Water Features Performance Art Al Fresco

THE SETTING: Austin’s Symphony Square was the recent setting for cool vibes on a picture-perfect evening. Over 300 of the Capital City’s turned out for Forklift Fantasia: The Shape of Water event for an evening of fun and performances that left the audience wanting more.

THE STYLE: The all-blue attire was seen from the moment one walked into the courtyard of the venue. Sociables donned their favorite blue ensembles, many of whom featured blue prints to complement the Shape of Water theme. Guests began the evening sipping signature cocktails where they could pose for photos in two unique ways: one against a blue and purple bubble- themed step and repeat, the other through an illusion artist that allowed the images to appear on the side of a building within Symphony Square.

After words from the event chairs, the fun continued guests mingled while sampling delicious bites courtesy of Word of Mouth catering. Additionally, guests were able to preview and bid on the 12 silent auction packages that were themed by category and featuring many top Austin merchants. Additionally, guests had the opportunity to donate to a raffle as well as a higher priced “Golden Ticket Raffle” that allowed the auction winner first choice of an auction package of their choosing. Next, the action moved to the Symphony Square Amphitheater for the main program. Patrons were treated to words al fresco from Forklift Danceworks leaders. The evening was capped off with a special sneak performance of the Austin’s downtown creek crew, which features municipal workers dancing to dramatic lights and music.

THE PURPOSE: The event, co-chaired by Kathy Smith-Garza and Nathan Idais, raised over $140,000 for Forklift Danceworks. Founded in 2001, the organization activates communities through the creative process to envision a world where art, movement and creativity are a part of everyday life.
